Here’s the untold story behind experiencing burnout as a busy mum trying to kickstart her fitness journey. I’ve spoken to many women about their fitness journey, most being moms, and from being a mum myself and understanding the role that comes with it…
I truly understand how difficult it is to manage the role alongside other responsibilities such as friends, work, and goals such as kickstarting your fitness journey!
It can be overwhelming, and you may even experience burnout trying to manage it all.
So today’s blog will cover 15 points that you probably think are normal but are future signs of burnout.
If you are experiencing burnout, I recommend taking a day off from everything and calling it a “reset day”, do things for yourself, and begin to really take care of yourself.
Okay, let’s dive in!
Constantly Feeling Tired
Feeling tired all the time, even after a full night of quality rest and recovery, is a huge indicator that your body is exhausted in other ways.
Sleeping won’t fix this type of tiredness, your mind is tired, and it’s not getting the type of rest it needs.
Irritability
Getting easily annoyed, frustrated, or irritated, even over small issues, suggests your stress levels are high. Many moms experience this, and it’s the path to emotional exhaustion
Difficulty Concentrating
Struggling to focus on tasks as a mom, or forgetting things more often can be because you are overwhelmed with everything you have to manage. You have a mental overload, and is a sign of burnout!
Headaches or Pain
Physical pain, whether that’s headaches, backaches, or tension can be overloaded stress on your body, which can cause burnout.
If you’re experiencing this, remember to take it easy!
Loss of Interest
If you notice yourself losing interest in things you once enjoyed, such as hobbies or activities, you may soon experience burnout. You may be emotionally drained, have no motivation, and lack the energy to find things you enjoy.
Sleep
Have you noticed you’re struggling to fall asleep or stay asleep?
If you have, you may be anxious or stressed about something which can escalate and cause burnout if not resolved soon enough.
Numbness
Feeling detached or emotionally numb can indicate that you’re overwhelmed, or your body is beginning to shut down as a coping mechanism because your body and mind have been through SO much.
This is a huge sign that you may be experiencing burnout.
Worrying
If you’re constantly worrying or anxious about managing your roles, as a mom, sister, friend, or at work, it can lead to chronic stress and burnout over time. I get it’s difficult to manage all of your roles, and I get you’re worried.

If you do notice this, you may be mentally fatigued, which can lead to burnout!
Neglecting Self-Care
Self-care is crucial, especially for busy mums.
Skipping meals, not exercising, and ignoring your body's feelings, are all indicators that you’re too overwhelmed to take care of yourself properly.
Isolation
Preferring to be alone and becoming isolated from friends and family can signal that you’re too drained to put the effort in for others.
Keeping strong bonded relationships is a MUST!
Illness
Are you frequently getting ill?
A weakened immune system can be a sign that your body is under too much stress, you’re overwhelmed, and you will become burnt out if nothing changes.
Procrastination
Delaying tasks, putting them off, or simply not doing them shows you’re overwhelmed and struggling to cope with your workload.
Learn to say NO to less important tasks that don’t align with your main goals.
